Golden Week is one of the most popular times to travel in Japan. And while this may sound great for a second, what it actually means is crowds, sky-high prices for hotels, and even more crowds.
Golden Week 2023 This year’s official Golden Week holidays are on the short side — just three days, from Wednesday May 3 to Friday May 5. While April 29 is also an official holiday, it’s a Saturday so no extra days off there. However, don’t be surprised if lots of people take May 1 and 2 off as well. Expect travel crowds to peak on the evening of Tuesday, May 2 and the morning of Wednesday, May 3. Sunday, May 7 will also be very busy with people returning from their trips.
